WOW WOW WOW! We’ve only been in Nicaragua for 1 week and it’s been EPIC!
Seriously, I guess we can confess now but we were pretty nervous about the move. We weren’t really sure how well we would adjust, unsure if we would “fit in” here, and truthfully, I thought my fear of the night creatures would keep me awake all night…
Well, here we are, a week into our Nica lives and the place and lifestyle has blown us away. We have met the most wonderful people and already feel like we have a circle of friends here. So grateful the connections we’ve made and for the sense of community. The community here in Popoyo is really special. Lots of young people (Is it ok to still call ourselves young? haha!), inspiring travelers and entrepreneurs.
We got the opportunity to watch Nicaragua vs Jamaica at a football (soccer) match which brought the biggest crowd to the Managua stadium EVER. Yes we were part of that. We called that night our Nicaragua 101. Hanging out with locals, witnessing their team spirit and Nica pride. Really a great experience despite the fact that Nicaragua lost…
After being at Equilibrio for just a few nights, we got invited to a little beach party with a local band. With front row seats and one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had, we watched the band in awe. So much talent! We’ve now just finished a two day CircAsana workshop where Nathan was the only guy in a group of about 20! You know he loved it! It was hands downthe best yoga workshop I’ve attended. The energy, the people, the content just blew us away. Hula Yoga… Yup, yoga using a hula hoop as a prop! UNREAL! It has changed my yoga practice forever.
Needless to say, boredom and loneliness has not been an issue so far 🙂
Integration at Equilibrio Yoga Surf & Art Retreat has been wonderful. The staff have been so great at helping us settle into our new roles. Giving us tours, explaining everything to us in very simple Spanish… (By the way, Nathan is dong great! Learning words everyday). The night time creatures still scare me to pieces but I’m learning to just go with the flow while being extremely cautious. We walk with flashlights at night, sleep with our bed just slightly pulled away from the wall, wear shoes if we get up to pee in the night and… I spray lavender spray around the room because I read that insects, including scorpions, aren’t big fans!
It’s truly been a magical week. I am still not sure it’s really sunk in that we live here, but regardless, we are doing great. Hey maybe it will never sink in and it will always feel like a work holiday type of thing. And if that’s the case, we will just roll with it.
