I feel very lucky to say that I lived in Bermuda for 10 years. Very lucky! I spent most of my 20’s on the island and during that time I worked as an underwriter and had a bit of a jet setting life. Travelling for business regularly and enjoying island life when I was home. While on “de rock” as they say, I made some amazing lifelong friends and experienced a life that I consider full of culture and color!
Nathan and I recently went back for Bermuda’s debut Carnival. This was my second time back to the island since leaving in 2013 and my experience was such a high. Imagine going on holiday to place where everyone knows your name, thinks you’re local, and welcomes you back with open arms; everyone greets you with a big smile, and hugs.
The beauty of the island is like no other place I have been to. On this particular trip, everything looked picturesque. Almost fake!
For five days straight I drove around the island with a smile on my face just admiring the beauty everywhere. Its hard to be sad, stressed or negative when you are surrounded by breathtaking views.
On Bermuda license plates it says “Bermuda is Another World”. And for the first time, it really resonated with me and made sense to me. It really is another world. Like no other!
I have nothing but good things to say about the island and I have a very special place for it in my heart. The people, the culture, the lifestyle, and the beauty. Everything that makes it truly unique. As I mentioned, we got to be part of Bermuda’s very first Carnival. It was very special to both Nathan and I to be part of this occasion. There will never be another “first Carnival” for Bermuda, and of all Carnival’s in the world, I couldn’t imagine a better one to experience as my first. Bermudians know how to throw a good party and how to have a good time!!
We will keep returning to Bermuda for years to come. It will always be a place of very positive memories, and is also the place where Nathan and I first met. I know that every time we will go back we will create new memories with old friends, and look at the beauty of the island and the people with fresh eyes, over and over again. Thank you Bermuda for being another world, and a place I can call home.
